Sustainable Trade

At re:sap, we focus primarily on the product range and check it for ecological and social sustainability. In addition, we encourage our members to align their other corporate activities with sustainability and fairness. This ranges from ethical banking and green electricity, to the use of more sustainable materials in shop fittings, to the purchase of consumables and food for the tea kitchen. Good working conditions for all employees at our member companies are also particularly important to us.

Sustainable assortment

At re:sap, we attach great importance to ensuring that customers who specifically want to buy environmentally friendly and fair fashion are only offered textiles in our members' stores that really meet both requirements. To this end, we have developed a common catalogue of criteria, check all manufacturers (brands) with a questionnaire and have certificates and audit reports presented to us.

Our criteria are based on scientific studies as well as on the work of labor law, human rights and environmental organizations. We have our criteria regularly reviewed by a scientific advisory board in order to adapt them to new developments.

At re:sap, we not only evaluate individual products, but also the manufacturers (brands) as a whole. re:sap members receive a whitelist of all the brands we have checked and found to be good. When new members are accepted, manufacturers who are not yet on the list are also checked.

Fair working conditions

In the area of working conditions, we refer to the standards of the International Labour Organization (ILO), on which many well-known certification systems are based. However, studies show that not all systems really make an effort to enforce these standards. We recognize the following certificates and organizations for efforts to ensure good working conditions: Fairwear (Good + Leader Status), SA8000, Fair Trade Textile Standard, WFTO and GOTS. Production in countries with a comparatively low risk of serious labor law violations is considered equivalent. These are the EU members except Romania and Bulgaria. In addition, there are Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.

Even productions that do not take place in low-risk countries or do not have one of the aforementioned certificates can meet our criteria. You can find the exact conditions for this in our document "SUSTAINABILITY CRITERIA RANGE".

Environmentally friendly products
When evaluating the ecological aspects of products and collections, we initially only refer to the materials used. To date, there are no established standards for consistently taking processing (dyeing, finishing, etc.) into account, particularly for sustainable regenerated fibers and recycled fibers of all fiber classes.

Our members' stores should only sell textiles made from materials that have an equally good or better ecological balance than organic cotton and/or are considered "best in class" in their respective fiber class. We use scientific publications and the Higg Index to classify them.

A positive list with all currently accepted materials from the field of natural,
You can also find regenerated, synthetic and animal fibres in our document “SUSTAINABILITY CRITERIA RANGE”
